Pray without Ceasing
The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17; Ephesians 6;18). I recently heard a pastor say that one of the most difficult things to do is maintain a proper and consistent prayer life. Hearing this, I thought, wow this is so true. I have always struggled with praying and praying consistently. It is like our very nature of the flesh sabotages our prayer life. However, I’ve come to realise it is because we choose to live according to the flesh and not the spirit.
Romans 8:5 says, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.”
It is the things of the flesh that distract us from prayer. Our jobs, families, passions, reading, hobbies and just life itself continue to distract us. But even though many of these things are important as we live here on earth, are they more important than God? When things are important to us, we choose to make them a priority. There are times in life where we willingly sacrifice one thing for another because we prioritise it. But do we put God at the top of that list? Do we consider him a priority? Do we think it is acceptable as children of God, knowing that he is always with us and we never talk to him or consult him about anything? Do we use him as an emergency fire escape and only use Him when we are desperate and in need of help? What kind of relationship is that, and do we realise that God is so much more than an emergency escape?
He is the one who created us out of love
He wants a relationship with us
He wants to be a part of our lives
He deserves to be a major part of our lives.
So let us work on that prayer life and overcome that difficulty in maintaining it. Prayer is an honest communication from the heart with God and remembering that it is two-way and that God speaks. The more we speak with Him, the easier it becomes to pray and to hear Him. Remember that hearing him can be audible, but it can be through his word and if we don’t spend time with him in his word, we may not hear him.
The key is to purpose in our hearts to want that relationship with God, decide He is the most important one to us, and do it. Pray!
Philippians 4:6-7
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Thanks for sharing, recently started just trying to talk to God not just in devotion time with him. During daily activities, washing wares, cleaning the house, driving etc. God wants us to pray without ceasing indeed ! Always a blessing 🙂
Thanks
Thank you Vani for another insightful piece.

Thank you for your continued support.
I believe in Thessalonians 5:17 and try to practice it throughout my daily lives. Lovely and insightful message Vani
Thanks
I am just catching up on these writings, forgive me.
“However, I’ve come to realise it is because we choose to live according to the flesh and not the spirit”. This line jumped out at me because it is so so very true and so disappointing. And you are right, let us decide that God is the most important one, thing to us and Pray! Without ceasing.
Thank you Vani
