The Lord is My Rock
When you look at David’s words, you see how David knew God. He speaks of God as his rock, fortress and deliverer. The one you call your rock is firm and strong, someone who is unmovable and dependable. Do we realize that our God is the most dependable one we will ever have? David knew this, and he depended on God. He is a fortress, a protection against any opposing forces. A fortress is a place where there is protection from the enemy’s fire in war. God is our fortress; he is our protection in times of attack. He is our deliverer, the one who saves us from any and every trouble. We can count on him to deliver us from our enemy. He is our refuge, our safe place in times of trouble. He is our shield, protecting us when we are under attack. David knew this truth about God, and we should know this too.
Do we walk around knowing this truth? If we know this, we will never falter no matter what happens. So what makes us worry and stress? At that moment, is God not able to be our protector and deliverer? And I’m not saying we will never slip up and worry when that bad news comes, but can we remind ourselves of this truth and turn to God in times of trouble? Are we able to take those thoughts of worry and terror and turn them over to God and trust Him to have our backs? Let us declare it and meditate on it, that He is our rock.
2 Samuel 22:1-4
22 And David spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. 2 He said,
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
3 my[a] God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation,
my stronghold and my refuge,
my savior; you save me from violence.
4 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.
