A Study on Faith
The first and main message of Christianity is to be saved. We are saved by confessing that Jesus is Lord and believing in our hearts that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9-10). The actual foundation of Christianity is to believe, that is to have faith in God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
When we look at the gospels, we see Jesus recognized people’s faith in him and attributed it as a great thing. (Matthew 8:10; Matthew 9:2; Matthew 9:22….). From these scriptures, you can learn a lot about faith. I went through many verses from the New Testament that uses the word faith and pulled some key aspects about faith that stood out to me.
- Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
- Faith should not stand on the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
- Faith is not just to believe but to believe in God and what he has done for us.
- Faith comes by hearing the word of God.
- God has given each of us a measure of faith.
- We are to have faith and do not doubt.
- Faith is one of the most important matters of God’s law.
- Faith is the basis of salvation.
- We receive the Spirit of God through faith.
- We should want more faith.
- We should pray that our faith does not fail.
- Faith results in forgiven sins, healing, and wholeness.
- A little faith goes a long way.
- Faith purifies the heart.
- The just lives by faith.
- We should walk by faith and not by sight.
- We should examine ourselves to check our faith.
- Faith is our shield against the fiery darts of the wicked.
- By faith, we can trust God for the impossible.
- By faith, we see miracles.
- By faith, we can do the impossible.
- The testing of our faith produces steadfastness/patience.
- Faith without works is dead.
I hope this brings us closer to understanding the concept of faith in God and how we are to grow in it.
