He is Brokenhearted
The Curse
Genesis 3
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done?
The Flood
Genesis 6
5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Sodom and Gomorah
Genesis 18
20 And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know
… “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.”
The Golden Calf
Exodus 32
7 And the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. 8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them. They have made for themselves a golden calf and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it and said, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!’” 9 And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people. 10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them, in order that I may make a great nation of you.”
Why do we continue to break his heart as if we don’t care at all? He should be the most important to us, and yet still we choose, so many times, to disregard him, to be disobedient and fail to love him. The Bible repeatedly demonstrates where the people of God have failed him and outrightly disobeyed him. Just like the people in the Bible, no matter how many times we see the examples, we still tend to make the same mistakes. Humans, since creation, have done so poorly that God even regretted he made us. But the more important point to note is that even though his heart has been broken so much and is still being broken by us daily, he constantly shows his unwavering love for us. He did not wipe us out; he did not give up on us, and he sent his son to die in place of us. How can anyone love us more? We need to spend more time meditating on how much God loves us, and if we truly understand how much he loves us, we will think twice before breaking his heart the next time.
