God has been good to humankind, and he continues to be. He creates beauty and delight and blesses us with it.  But then the test comes, and we fail and reap the consequences. But our good God does not forget us. He remembers us and turns our folly around for good and provides blessing again.

This cycle continues to repeat itself through generations. When the Bible speaks of God remembering his people and his promises it marks a moment of God blessing, forgiveness, rescue, salvation and abundance.  

But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. Genesis 8:1. I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. Genesis 9:15

God destroyed all living things on the earth, but he remembered that remnant on the ark, blessed them and provided for them so that they could start over.

So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived. Genesis 19:29

God saved Lot because Abraham would have interceded for him.

Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb. Genesis 30:22

They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. 1 Samuel 1:19

God remembered these women and blessed them with their hearts’ desire.

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. Genesis 2:24

God heard Israel, had mercy on them, and recused them of slavery.

And when you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the Lord your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies. Numbers 10:9

God hears our call even when we have done wrong and been disobedient, and he does not give us what we deserve. He has mercy on us and rescues us over and over again. He does this because he is a good God who loves us unconditionally. And that’s what unconditional is. Even when we are the sinful prodigal son, he takes us back when we are repentant, and He forgives us of all. Let us repent and return to Him while there is still time, and he will remember us. Let us do it while there is still time because there will come a time when it is too late.
