The Mysteries of God
The Bible is a book full of many mysteries. It is a book that we can continuously read and meditate over our lifetimes. Every time we read the Bible, we get more out of it, learn something new or see something different. A perfectly designed book that has enough in there to last us a lifetime of study. God knows exactly how to reveal His word to us, precisely what and when we need it.
Mark 4:10-12
And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, so that ” ‘they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven.'”
In Mark 4, Jesus tells his disciples that they have been given the secret to the kingdom of God, but for those outside the kingdom, it is in parables. He explains that they see but do not perceive; they hear but do not understand. The passage also suggests that it is through these revelations that people turn and are forgiven.
Even when we are saved, we are still not perfected. We are on an ongoing journey to become like Jesus day by day, but still not there. We live in the world and get distracted by it. There have been too many who have experienced the salvation of God and have turned away from it. So, I can see why all the mysteries of God does not come to us all at once when we are saved. When we read the word, there is so much, we do not fully understand, but as we grow in the Spirit, closer to God, we get more understanding. More and more are revealed to us as we give up more of ourselves and take up more of the Father.
Romans 16: 25-27
Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith — to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.
Jesus explains to his disciples that the secret to the kingdom was given to them then. And later on, Paul says in Romans that the mysteries have now been disclosed. These mysteries have been made known through God’s word and are revealed to all the nations according to God’s command. So, God has revealed the mysteries of the kingdom, and it is available to all. Furthermore, we know that the word says that this can make people turn and be forgiven. God wants all to be saved, He wants all to have faith, obey, turn, repent and be forgiven, so He has made a way. God, in His wisdom, kept these mysteries until the time was perfect. But now it is available to all so that all may turn and be forgiven.
God in His perfect wisdom gave us choice. Jesus came to save us, but we need to choose to accept it. And the mysteries are there, but we need to choose to seek God and His word to receive it. It’s not going to jump into our heads magically, but we need to choose daily to build our relationship with God by speaking with Him and searching His word to get to know Him. So, let us choose God, His mysteries, and His love. Let us press on in growing in the Spirit so that we can receive more of these mysteries and draw closer to the Father. Let us obey God’s directions to help people see the mystery that we are all cursed, but Jesus came to save us, and we need to choose to accept salvation.
