Blessed, Delight and Meditate

Blessed, Delight and Meditate

September 8, 2022 Vani De Freitas Comments 3 comments

It’s always refreshing to get a reminder of what the Bible says about God’s word. I love being reminded of this as it inspires me to read my Bible. And it’s also inspiring to learn that the Bible is meant to be read repeatedly throughout our lifetime.

The Bible says when we know the word and walk according to it; we are blessed. It says that we should delight in it and meditate upon it. We should also be mindful that meditate here does not mean the same thing as the meditate we understand from the world. So, allow these verses to seep within you and inspire you to read more daily.

Blessed

Blessed means happiness. We tend to have our own ideas of what makes us happy, but most times, it’s all temporary and leads not to true happiness. The Bible tells us where happiness truly lies.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. (Psalm 1:1)

Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. (Psalm 112:1)

Delight

Delight means pleasure and desire. We should desire with great pleasure to read the word. Are we there? Maybe not always, but we can work on improving that. The more time we spend with him, the more we delight in Him.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (Psalm 1:2)

Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. (Psalm 112:1)

Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight. (Psalm 119:35)

And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved. (Psalm 119:47)

Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. (Psalm 119:92)

Mediate

Meditate means to murmur, ponder, imagine, speak, and study. Most times, when we hear mediate in the Bible, we think it means clearing the mind and sitting still in peace. But the mediate that the Bible speaks of is to ponder on something we read. We are to chew it over and over like the cow. We need to speak about it and play it over and over in our minds.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (Psalm 1:2)

O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. (Psalm 119:97)

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (Joshua 1:8)
