Clean with the Word

Clean with the Word

Psalm 24:3-6

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
    and does not swear deceitfully.
5 He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.[b]

We are called to be clean and pure, to turn away from sin. We cannot be in right relationship with God if we are not clean. We should seek him with a pure heart. When we get drawn into the world we drift away from the things of God and we are more likely to sin and be unclean. The word makes us clean.

1 Peter 1:22-25

22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for

“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
    and the flower falls,
25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.”

And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

We are called to be obedient to God and his word. We are called to live and abide in his word. The only way we can do this is by reading, meditating and studying his word on a regular basis. How important is God’s word to us. Is it less important than our work, our families our obligations of this world?  And is the time that we spend with him reflective of how important he is to us?

John 15:3

Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Jesus told them that they are clean by his word.

Psalm 119:9-11

How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

We are told to live according to his word, to store it in our hearts so that we will not sin. The word is God and there are so many benefits of it for us. Becoming clean and washed by the word is just one of the benefits but let this be a reminder of how significant it is to us and that we need to remember to be in his word day and night.
