Do not be Afraid
After giving birth to our first child in December 2021, I took some time off for rest and recovery. She is such a blessing from God, and day by day, I see more blessings upon her and us. We have been doing so well, and so is she. We are so grateful for this, especially when we learn of all the things that could go wrong. As I grow to love this little one more and more each day, I began to realise that I had a fear in my heart that something could go wrong with her. So many things that could happen to her. But as I prayed and committed my fears to God, I realised that I needed to depend on God to protect and keep her. The truth is I cannot protect her, but God can, and so as I realised this, the weight of these concerns lifted. It’s not something that disappears, but I commit her to God each day and ask for his covering hands over her. The Bible tells us to be strong and courageous and not be afraid. It’s so easy to forget this and slip into fear, but if we continue to remind ourselves that if God is for us, no one can be against us (Romans 8:31), we will be fearless.
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Deuteronomy 1:29-33
Then I said to you, ‘Do not be in dread or afraid of them. The Lord your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’ Yet in spite of this word you did not believe the Lord your God, who went before you in the way to seek you out a place to pitch your tents, in fire by night and in the cloud by day, to show you by what way you should go.
Deuteronomy 7:21-22
You shall not be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God. The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little.
Deuteronomy 20:2-4
And when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’
Deuteronomy 31:6-8
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it. It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
