Exceedingly Abundantly Above all we can Ask or Think
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all generations for ever and ever. Amen. – Ephesians 3:20-21
The Bible tells us that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than what we can ask or think. Acknowledging that the verses say this is according to the power in us, but this is still such a significant statement. I was meditating on this verse, and it occurred that I can think of so many blessings that God has granted me and often, it is so much more than I asked and even more than I could imagine. So this made me wonder, are there many examples of this in the Bible? And will these examples help to increase our faith in Him and see his love for us even clearer?
Power In Us
The word power in the verse above means miraculous power, ability or strength. Additionally, when we look at the verses above Ephesians 3:20-21, Paul prays that God would grant his people strength by the Spirit. That Christ would dwell in their hearts by faith, being rooted in love and may be able to comprehend the love of Christ that they may be filled with the fullness of God. Maybe Paul is saying that the power that worketh in us has to do with our faith in God and how much we allow Christ to dwell in us. And so this power is the power of God that worketh in us, but we need to choose Him, have faith in Him, build that relationship with Him, and then this promise is for us that He will do exceedingly abundantly more than we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:16-21).
Examples of Exceedingly Abundantly Above All we can ask?
Solomon
Solomon asked God to give him wisdom and knowledge to rule and judge this great nation of God’s people Israel. God well beyond what Solomon asked. God gave Solomon the wisdom and knowledge which he asked, but He also gave Solomon riches, wealth and honour and that there would be no other King like him. Thus, God went exceedingly abundantly more than Solomon asked.
Hannah
Hannah longed for children, but she was unable to. She prayed to the Lord, and God granted her petition, and she bore a son. An even more than that, her son became a great prophet of the Lord who would walk with God all the days of his life and was used by God to direct his Kings on earth. What a privilege? Samuel heard directly from the Lord; a rare gift back then had. And as if that was not enough, God granted Hannah more children. She had three sons and two daughters. God granted Hannah exceedingly abundantly more than she asked. (1 Samuel 1-2).
Joseph
Joseph was blessed by God and blessed in such significant ways it was probably more than Joseph could have imagined. Joseph was sold by his brothers to become a slave, but God was with Joseph, and he rose from being a slave to working for one of the Pharaoh’s officers. But even there is got into hot water for doing the right and was thrown into jail. But again, God blessed Joseph, and he rose to even higher power where he worked for Pharoah and was in charge of all the land of Egypt. This was a great blessing, and through this power, he was able to save many people from famine in the land. God blessed Joseph exceedingly abundantly, more than he could imagine. (Genesis 37, 39-41).
Daniel
Daniel had great faith in God, so he was blessed tremendously, but I’m not sure he knew how much God would bless and favour him. God used Daniel several times to speak with King Nebuchadnezzar. On this one occasion, the king had a dream, and when he realised all the wise men in his kingdom could not interpret the dream, he ordered they all be killed. When Daniel heard this, he made an appointment with the king to give him the interpretation. After this, he and his friends prayed that God would reveal it to Daniel and save their lives. God was faithful, and Daniel was able to interpret the dream. This saved not only Daniel and his friends but the other wise men of Babylon. And even more blessing, Daniel was promoted to high honour and great gifts along with his friends. (Daniel 1-2).
These are only a few of the many examples of blessings in the Bible where God blessed with exceedingly abundantly above all that one can ask or think. Our God loves his children, and he wants to bless us, but we need to be in the right place to be blessed sometimes. We need to have faith in Him, we need to trust Him, we need to be obedient to him, and we need to walk with Him in a relationship daily. He blessed Elijah, Elisha, Abraham, Moses, Jacob, and so many in the New Testament; why won’t he bless us?
