Hear it and Believe
Genesis 15:4-6
And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.” And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.
Abraham believed God, he trusted in Him and it says that God counted it as righteousness. Because of this belief in God Abraham was considered righteous i.e. in right standing with God. And Paul emphases that in Galatians 3.
Galatians 3
7 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” 9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”
Those who have faith are the sons of Abraham. It is by faith we the Gentiles are made right with God. When we have faith, we are blessed like Abraham. God counted Abraham’s faith as righteousness and the scripture tells us that the righteous shall live by faith. It is when we realize that we need God and so we can trust in Him that we are in the right place with Him.
How do we have faith? Faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). Abraham believed God when he heard from. We hear from God by his word. We are supposed to read it, study it and hear it being preached and then our faith grows. So, let us grow in his word and in faith and be in right standing with God.
Habakkuk 2:4
“Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him,
but the righteous shall live by his faith.
