His ‘hesed’ is Forever
Psalms 118
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: because his hesed endureth for ever.
2 Let Israel now say, that his hesed endureth for ever.
3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his hesed endureth for ever.
4 Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his hesed endureth for ever.
The Hebrew word ḥeseḏ, pronounced kheh’-sed, is interesting because if you look at a few different translations of the bible you will see a set of different words used to translate it.
Some of the words used were: mercy, lovingkindness, love and kindness.
When you look at the definition in the Strong’s dictionary hesed means:
Kindness, mercy, lovingkindness, goodness and favour.
Its as if there is no one English word to fully describe the meaning of the word hesed.
These verses in Psalms 118 tell us that his kindness, love, mercy, goodness, favour and lovingkindness towards us is forever. What a remarkable and beautiful truth about how our God loves us. He is the God of all and he loves us unconditionally forever. He loves us through anything and he gives us so many chances to return to him when we foolishly choose to run from Him. We are blessed and fortunate to have such a God but we tend to forget it.
If only we understood this at all times we would be able to stand strong in faith in Jesus through any trial. If his hesed is for us forever then he is always seeking our best interest. He loves us even when he lets us suffer and struggle. When we go through difficulty if only there is a reminder telling us this truth constantly we would be ok.
But we often read this, believe it and feel so great but when the storm comes the enemy snatches it away and we are lost again and ready to surrender. Why is it so hard to hold on to God’s word?
So I’ll leave this thought with you: How are we to ensure that we hold on to his truth especially so that when we are in need of it we will have it there as our constant reminder of who our God is to us?
Hint hint: be often in the word of God!

Lovely. His here is new every single morning, it is manifested throughout each day and through each night.
Keep up this great work Vani.
Thank you Vani for this encouraging thought.
May the Spirit that lives in us always points us to the ‘hesed’ of our great God, especially in times of adversity.
