Job – a reminder of trust

Job – a reminder of trust

June 8, 2023 Vani De Freitas Comments 2 comments

Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong. – Job 1:20-22

You may have heard this one before, but I think it’s always worth reminding ourselves. If Job can respond this way because of his dedication and trust in God after losing everything, why can’t we?

I love reading about Job. It’s scary but a great reminder of where we should be—a place where we continue to trust God no matter what hits us.

Job heard all the bad news about not only losing his livestock but also losing his children. Yes, that was difficult, and Job mourned, but he still remembered that God is to be praised. He remembered that God is in control, and he remembered to trust God.

I especially love the statement that “God gave, but he takes away”. It’s not easy to use when that happens to us, but I know it honours God when we are hurt due to loss and can still trust Him. Even when we have just lost that most precious blessing that he has given us, we can still trust him. Even when it makes no sense and initially feels like it’s unfair, we can still trust God when we do not understand. This is trust.

Were you blessed? Feel free to share that blessing with others

    This is Trust!
The book of Job, or more so the character of the man Job is especially encouraging to me. I think of him as a perfect or almost perfect example Trusting God while being completely human. Thanks Vani.

Thank you Vani for this exhort on Job, the man who trusted God when he was in the lowest state a human can be in
May the Holy Spirit stir us to become more child-like in our dependence on God.
