More with us than them
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me? – Psalm 118:6
I wanted to share this powerful reminder in the words of King Hezekiah and Elisha.
In this account, Hezekiah is preparing for the enemy’s attack, and he gathers the people and speaks to them. He encourages them and helps them not to be afraid. He tells them that there is more with us than with the enemy. King Hezekiah is not referring to his army, but he goes on to explain that they have God on their side to help them and to fight their battles.
King Hezekiah
2 Chronicles 32:6-8
6 And he set combat commanders over the people and gathered them together to him in the square at the gate of the city and spoke encouragingly to them, saying, 7 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. 8 With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
This next example is such a beautiful and miraculous account. Here, Elisha’s servant becomes afraid when he sees the enemy’s army surrounding them. But immediately, Elisha tells him that he should not be afraid because those who are with us are more than those who are with them. And as if Elisha’s words were not enough, the Lord opened the man’s eyes to see that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire. What an amazing sight that must have been.
Elisha
2 Kings 6:15-17
15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
In these two accounts, these men used very similar words, and they referred to the same fact that God is on our side, so we should not fear. King Hezekiah is sure of this and encourages the people with this. In Elisha’s story, we see a small peek of the powerful nature of God there, watching over and ready to help and fight our battles.
So let us remember that there is more with us than with the enemy, and in our daily battles in this world, let us remember who fights our battles and remain faithful day by day.
To God be the glory.

A reminder that the battle is the Lord’s not ours.
Thank you Vani!
In Psalm 46 the Psalmist write “God is our refuge and strength a very present help in trouble. Therefore we shall not fear. Same thought: There are more with us than against us. Christ is indeed enough for me.
