The Character of the One who Dwells with God
When we belong to God, we should want that relationship with Him, and we should desire to be in His presence, understanding that in His presence there is the fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).
Psalm 15 speaks about the kind of person who qualifies to stand in the presence of the Most High God. It speaks of the character of one who has that personal relationship with Him. Who can stand in the presence of the Most High God?
Who Shall Dwell on Your Holy Hill?
A Psalm of David.
15 O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?
Who shall dwell on your holy hill?
2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
and speaks truth in his heart;
3 who does not slander with his tongue
and does no evil to his neighbor,
nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
but who honors those who fear the Lord;
who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 who does not put out his money at interest
and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be moved.
He:
- Is blameless
- Is righteousness
- Establishes truth in his heart
- Does not slander
- Does no evil to his neighbour
- Does not bring shame to his friend
- Despises evil
- Praises the fear of the Lord
- He keeps his word, even to his detriment
- He gives without expecting interest
- He takes no bribes
- He shall never be moved from this character.
Summary
In summary, here are a few of the most important aspects that stand out:
- The state of the heart – having that intention from the heart to love God and do what is right is what is important.
- What comes out of the mouth – When our heart is in the right place, what comes out of the mouth is righteous and builds up.
- Interaction with others – The way we interact with others should be that which uplifts and not tear down.
- Our words and promises are important – Just like God’s word is dependable; our words need to be also.
- What is appealing to our eyes? – What appeals to our eyes should be Godly and not evil. We should rejoice in the fear of God and not in evil. We should want the fear of God and not evil.
