The Heart
As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man – Proverbs 27:19
Our heart reflects who we are, and we know that God looks upon the heart of man and not on his outward appearance (1 Samuel 16:7). We can find ourselves hiding our hearts from the people around us, but we cannot hide it from God. Therefore, the condition of our hearts is important. Everything that we do, every decision we make, involves the heart. The things that we treasure most is where our heart is (For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also – Matthew 6:21). Do we treasure worldly possessions, people, our health or do we treasure God the most? I’m not saying we shouldn’t treasure people, but do they come before God?
Jeremiah tells us that the heart is deceitful in all its ways (Jeremiah 17:9). I believe this is because of our sinful nature, but we have hope. Jesus said that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Mattew 5:28). So, we don’t even have to act; if we have the intent in our hearts, then we are guilty. But we have hope. John tells us that whoever believes in Jesus out of his heart will flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). When we accept Jesus, we are being transformed from our sinful nature to Jesus’ nature, and Philippians tells us that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7). He can transform and guard our hearts so that it is pure and clean. But we must be willing to accept Him and let Him do it.
Ezekiel 11:14-21
14 And the word of the Lord came to me: 15 “Son of man, your brothers, even your brothers, your kinsmen,[b] the whole house of Israel, all of them, are those of whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, ‘Go far from the Lord; to us this land is given for a possession.’ 16 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Though I removed them far off among the nations, and though I scattered them among the countries, yet I have been a sanctuary to them for a while[c] in the countries where they have gone.’ 17 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.’ 18 And when they come there, they will remove from it all its detestable things and all its abominations. 19 And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, 20 that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. 21 But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, I will[d] bring their deeds upon their own heads, declares the Lord God.”
In these words, God’s plan for Israel was to give them one heart and one spirit. His intention for us is to be transformed from our sinful and wicked hearts to one heart that is like Jesus, full of the love that is God. So we all are to have one heart, and that heart is supposed to be like Jesus.
The heart is spoken of many times in the Bible:
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Jeremiah 29:13
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Mark 12:30
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
Hebrews 10:22
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Matthew 5:8
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Proverbs 3:3-4
Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favour and good success in the sight of God and man.
The Bible tells us to seek God and love Him with all our hearts. When we do something from the heart, it usually means we are genuinely convinced of what we are doing. We do it because we really want to do it. God has given us choice, and he wants us to choose him and do it wholeheartedly.
The Bible also tells us that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). Therefore, the state of the heart is so important in our lives. When we choose and make decisions we need to reflect and be sure that our heart is in the right place with our choices, words, and actions. So let us look into our hearts and find all the things that do not belong there and ask God to help us remove them and fill us more with Him. He is a God who can make us clean from the inside out and forgive us for anything we have done, all our weaknesses and spoils. He can truly transform our hearts.

I see hope in this Blog. I see one being able to rise from a place of condemnation to a place of accepting forgiveness and thus healing and wholeness. “We do have Hope”.
