The Lord’s Favour
Genesis 39:1-6
Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. 2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. 5 From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had, in house and field. 6 So he left all that he had in Joseph’s charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate.
The Bible tells us that the Lord was with Joseph and that this was visible to others. Joseph’s master saw that the Lord was with him, and all that Joseph did succeeded. This caused his master to give him charge over his household. The Bible says that the Lord blessed his house for Joseph’s sake. God blessed all he had in the house and the field.
When we love the Lord and obey him, his favour is supposed to rest upon us. And through us, anyone around us can also receive this favour. It can be such a tremendous overflow of favour and blessing that it is visibly God.
So, with this, I ask two questions:
- Am I in the right standing with God that his favour rest upon me? Is the Lord with me? Does my hand succeed in what I do?
- And if I have his favour, is it overflowing to those around me? Can people see and receive God’s blessing because of me?
God is sovereign, and he blesses who and how he chooses. He knows all, and he does it with a purpose. Even though the Lord was with Joseph, and he was favoured, soon after this account, he ends up in prison. He spends a couple of years in prison, but there was a purpose in this to fit into God’s perfect plan.
So, I’m just saying that this should make us meditate on a few important points, such as the ones mentioned above.
Is the favour of God overflowing about us unto others?

Thank you for sharing!!
Joseph is one of, if not my favorite Bible Character and it is aleays a blessing to read his story.
You are right; we need to always ask ourselves those questions. I want to walk/live/be in his “Overflowing to others” Favor, always.
Thank you. Krrp up the excellent work.
Questions indeed to ponder! Thank you Vani.
