Walk before Him with all your Heart
2 Chronicles 6:12-17
12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands. 13 Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits[a] long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the court, and he stood on it. Then he knelt on his knees in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven, 14 and said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart, 15 who have kept with your servant David my father what you declared to him. You spoke with your mouth, and with your hand have fulfilled it this day. 16 Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you have promised him, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’ 17 Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you have spoken to your servant David.
Solomon, (1 Kings 4:31) was wiser than all men, and he tells us here in his prayer that God keeps his covenant and shows love towards his servants who walk before him with all their heart.
He promises to strengthen us (Isaiah 41:10), that he will be with us and never leave (Deuteronomy 31:8), that he is our strength when we are weak (2 Corinthians 12:10) and he will guide us (Psalm 32:8). And this is just a drop in the bucket of what he has for his children. But are we seeing all his promises towards us?
The part of the scripture that kept ringing in my ear was his covenant are for those who walk before him with all their hearts. And it poses the question to me, am I? Am I walking before him with all my heart?
I am reminded that this world is very distracting. It is easy to get carried away and set God aside. It is easy to skip that time with God this morning because we are too busy. It is easy to find ourselves following after the desires of the world. It is easy to get caught up with the people around us who do not know God. It’s just very easy to get distracted and not walk before God with all our hearts.
But the word is there to keep us focused on Him.
The word is there to remind us daily, and we need that.
The word is there to convict our hearts when we are about to slip.
The word is there for us.
The word is Jesus and can help us get closer to that goal of being more like him.
The word helps us to walk before him with all our hearts.
Read the word as often as you can.
