We are Called to have Faith

We are Called to have Faith

August 7, 2024 Vani De Freitas Comments 2 comments

Some scholars describe the golden calf incident in Exodus 32 as one of the worst sins committed by God’s people.

Moses had gone up the mountain to meet God for 40 days and they didn’t know when he would return or if he was even alive and they were in the wilderness. The more I thought about it the more I realized it’s not unreasonable for someone to become afraid and anxious in such a situation. But this fear caused them to commit this great blasphemy against God.

And so I ask whether God expects us to be more than reasonable and logical when we are to trust in Him. Are we to trust in Him regardless of how long or dire the situation seems? This is not easy. But ..

Yes…we are supposed to be able to get to this point.
Are we to wait on him without signs and against all odds? Many times knowledge of the world teaches us that waiting on such things is illogical and makes no sense. But…

Yes, this is what we are called to do. Wait and trust Him through the odds.

And you know what we have one of the greatest calls to trust Him. We are called to wait for Jesus’ return. Jesus didn’t tell us when he was coming back. Even though we have so many details about Jesus and who he was from the Word of God it’s still not easy. It’s not easy because of how long it has been since He left and we are still waiting.

So are we going to wait on Jesus watchfully or will we get weary and think so much time has passed… When is he coming? Or is he coming back at all?

Yes, we are called to this great task to wait on Him faithfully, to truly believe and trust that he will return at any moment. So let us learn from the golden calf incident and wait faithfully just in case he does return in the very next moment.

May He bless you with increased faith.

Vani, this is quite an interesting exhortation. Never looked at the story of the golden calf in this light.
While we wait, we’re to ‘ look up ‘ for our redemption is drawing nearer, and we’re also to not neglect our meeting together to encourage each other.
    Thank you for this exhortation.

I will wait, believing that he will return as he said. I will trust him, even when it looks like it does not add up. Thanks for this true insight
